A little fire

We’ve been quiet over these past few months, but we wanted to update you on what’s been going on. In mid January our La Habra location suffered severe smoke damage from a neighboring fire that took place sometime during the night. The results of the damage caused us to close for a long and tiring 3 weeks! We had to replace our carpet and unfortunately lost a lot of equipment due to the smoke damage. During this time we worked very hard to keep our school open for our students and teachers. We would like to thank our students and customers for bearing with us through this hard time, it means a lot to us! We are slowly but surely rebuilding our inventory with all of the great guitars, basses, and gear you have come to love and we are most definitely open for business!

ROCKTOBER Comes to an end

This October La Habra and Corona Music Center celebrated ROCKTOBER! With Sales and events we took time to remember one of the best years in music:1969. We also had a ‘Jamboree’ at our Corona store to end the month! Teachers, parents, friends and students dressed up in their wizard and goblin costumes while jamming with their guitars, keyboards, shakers, drums, and voices at Corona Music Center during the 1st Annual Rocktober Jamboree on Saturday, October 25, 2014. Catered by a potluck of Halloween goodies such as pumpkin bread, bat shaped sugar cookies and candy, musicians of all backgrounds, some meeting each other for the first time, sat elbow-to-elbow in a Jam circle playing familiar tunes such as “Jumbolaya”. This inspiring event lead by Instructor’s Jonny Miller and Darin Eby, was a hit for the students, staff, and parents and anticipate it being even bigger next year.

Corona Music Celebrates Rocktober

At our La Habra location we had our Rockstarts group perform at our local Oktoberfest event! Brandon Grigorian on guitar, Nathan Grigorian on bass, Hayden Herrera on guitar, and Alan Arechiga on drums, rocked the stage with song like ‘All the small things’ from Blink 182 and ‘Another brick in the wall’ by Pink Floyd, ‘Torture me’ by Red Hot Chilli peppers, and ‘Rude’ by Magic!

La Habra musicians share their talents around the world

Ali Tabatabaee and Rusty Anderson have both traveled the world, performing in packed venues with their bands. Tabatabaee rolls with the metal band Zebrahead, and Anderson performs rock music with his Rusty Anderson Afternoon. About the only thing the musicians have in common is that they grew up in La Habra. “People come by and they see a little city and they think ‘Oh, a little city; there’s not much there,'” said Rick Lobos of the La Habra Music Center, a music store that’s called the city home for more than 50 years. “This is like the place to get an education in music.” Musicians hailing from La Habra play everything from rock to hip-hop, country to big band. “That’s what’s really cool about La Habra, is that all the kids have this kind of wide array of different musical taste and they still hang out together,” Tabatabaee said. Justine Dorsey has been singing since she could talk. At 9 years old she was performing in the “The Sound of Music” at the Hollywood Bowl. By 13, she was learning to play the guitar and soon after began writing her own music. The now-18-year-old pop singer performs mostly in Los Angeles, but takes the stage in La Habra on occasion, most recently during the Spring Citrus Fair. Click here to read rest of article

The Return of La Habra Music’s Thursday Night Talent Local Band Plays for Charity

Last Thursday La Habra Music welcomed up and coming band Desolate Motion for their very first performance. Desolate Motion Consist of Darnell Frazier (Vocals), Jacob Benson (Drums), Sterling Lynch (Bass), Owen Swisshelm (Lead Guitar), and Kevin Torres (Rhythm Guitar) all 17 years old . This experimental Metalcore band are local students of La Habra High School. When their teacher Mr. Derek Marshall implored them to seek out a project where they can use the profits for charity they contacted La Habra Music Center for help. We provided the stage, drums, amps, and PA’s for their performance and the quintet took stage at 8 pm to a crowd of friends and family. The band raised $257 and all proceeds will be donated to The Ronald Mcdonald House Foundation.
